Dine about Town San Francisco 2012

I have two favorite times a year; January and June.  Why?  Because Dine About Town happens in San Francisco.  I have gone three times now and would have gone more but I ran out of money.   Luckily they give you 6 months to save up.

The idea behind Dine About Town is to bring people to more expensive San Francisco restaurants without having the pay the expensive prices.  For a fixed price, $17.95 for lunch and $34.95 for dinner, you get a two or three course menu for lunch and dinner respectively.  They have every kind of food in every neighborhood of San Francisco.

Visit the website at Dine About Town.  Dine About Town is from January 15-30, 2012.  I am currently planning a birthday dinner at one of the restaurants and I will be sure to keep you all updated.

Here’s a review of the places I have tried for Dine About Town:

Isa: This place is located in the marina and has a beautiful interior.  The main area looks like a wine cavern which then leads into a beautiful indoor patio.   It’s all enclosed and there are heat lamps so you don’t have to worry about being cold in the winter.  It’s an intimate atmosphere and everything is served family style.  They bring out each plate as it is made.  The meat was juicy and tender, the veggies were firm and flavorful, and the dessert was sweet and satisfying. I loved the atmosphere, food, and service.  Highly recommended.

Grand Cafe: I went here for my birthday last year.  The interior is so-so, it looks a little like Elephant Bar or Cheesecake Factory, but the food was delicious!  The menu has changed a little in the past year and nothing that we had is still on the menu so I won’t go into much detail.  I will say though that they served the best beef bourguignon I have ever had.

Ruth Chris Steakhouse: I went here for a friend’s birthday.  We had an amazing time here!  The meat was phenomenal, the wine was great, and the service was impeccable.   I have never had my steak brought out on a hot plate before.  It never got cold.  The inside was warm and intimate and we had a somewhat private table for a small group.

Things to do in the Bay Area: Cirque du Soleil Totem

Cirque Du Soleil presents Totem

Last night, my family and I went to Cirque Du Soleil’s Totem performance in San Francisco.  It was an amazing performance filled with acrobatics, dancing, trapeze artists, and stunt work.  I won’t go into any of the particulars because it is truly inspiring what these artists do and I do not want to ruin the surprise.   If you have a night free, definitely take the journey with Cirque Du Soleil’s Totem.  Below you will find some information on how to get cirque du soleil coupons.

“TOTEM traces the fascinating journey of the human species from its original amphibian state to its ultimate desire to fly. The characters evolve on a stage evoking a giant turtle, the symbol of origin for many ancient civilizations.  Inspired by many founding myths, TOTEM illustrates, through a visual and acrobatic language, the evolutionary progress of species.  Somewhere between science and legend TOTEM explores the ties that bind Man to other species, his dreams and his infinite potential.”- From the website

Practicalities:

Performances for Cirque Du Soleil Totem run through December 18, 2011.   I found my tickets for %40 off through Goldstar.   There is more information below about Goldstar.  They are also featuring discounted tickets for Cirque Du Soleil: Immortal inspired by Michael Jackson.    Our seats were in the very back of the tent, but there were no more than 2600 people in the tent and our seats were still perfect.  Because it was in a tent I was worried it might be a little chilly, but I was fine.

Cirque Du Soleil is located at Grand Chapiteau at AT&T Park, Parking Lot A.  If you know where the Giants stadium is, it’s right next to that.  You can easily take BART and then MUNI to the show or drive.  Parking can be a little hard to find, but you can park in the parking lot for $20.

They do have snacks and merchandise at the tent.  The snacks are pretty expensive.  Wine-$9, sodas-$5, popcorn-$6, water-$6.  They have a couple combos for around $20 for a few people that includes candy.  Definitely eat or have a drink before you go.  There are plenty of good places around the tent.

I got my tickets through a service called Goldstar.  It is a discount website that gives you half price tickets to a variety of performances, concerts, sports, theater and more.  I highly recommend it.  Visit this Goldstar link for more information and to sign up.

Black Friday Deals on TVs at Target

Target is having an awesome Black Friday deal on HDTVs and other electronic gadgets.

There are featuring a wide range of TVs rangining from 149 dollars for a Polaroid 22″ LED 5oHz 1080p to 699 dollars for an Elements 55″ LCD 120Hz 1080p.    One of my favorite reasons to visit Targets is their electronics and gadgets.  I have my eye on a netbook which Target is selling for 157 dollars!!  They also have a Kindle, Nikon camera, and portable DVD players.

To view more TVS, check out the Target Black Friday ads here:

First AD-featuring TVs

Second AD-featuring Netbook, speaker system for Iphone/Ipods

Target has also come under heat recently because they are planning on opening stores at midnight Thursday night for Black Friday deals.  Other retailers like Kohls, Best Buy, and Macys are doing a similiar thing with wal Mart opening at 10pm.  Many people say this takes away from the family atmosphere of Thanksgiving especially to the people are who staffing these giant stores.  Do you really want someone helping you who hasn’t slept in 14 hours or is angry because he or she didn’t get to spend time with family and has to help you?   I think it’s a little crazy stores open at 4am which is why I have a preference for cyber Monday.  No lines, no waking up early, no parking, and no large crowds.

Black Friday Deals: H and M, Express, Ulta, Banana Republic

Are you’ll ready for Black Friday?  I will keep you posted on the most up to date and best deals so check back often!  Here are the first few Black Friday Deals!!  I’m also super excited for Cyber Monday so I will be updating for that as well!  Let me know of anything good!

Express Black Friday Deals: Take 40% everything off in the morning, 30% off everything in the afternoon
H & M Black Friday Deals: Scratchers for the first 100 people valued at $300. Dresses from $5, Sweaters from $5, outwear from $20, pants from $10
Ulta Black Friday Deals: Tons of discounted items. Too much to list here but visit this website to see their ad:

Special Events at the Vine Cinema

One of my favorite things to do in the area is see a movie at the Vine Cinema!  The Vine Cinema in Livermore, CA is an independently owned small movie theater.  There are just 2 theaters, but the movie selections are always great and they have fantastic events every month!  Thursdays are classic movie nights, the first Saturday of the month they show Rocky Horror Picture Show, and other special events listed on the Vine Cinema’s website.

One particular event at the Vine Cinema I attended last night was their Wine Night.  The event featured wine from four different Livermore wineries and then they showed “Bottleshock’, a movie about the 1976 competition between Napa Valley Wines and French wines where the California wine trumped the French wine and put Napa Valley on the map.  Afterwards they had an informative Q and A with the different wineries.  The event has inspired me to try out a few different wineries in Livermore and we have a free tasting to a few of them!

My friend Jasmine and I at the Vine Cinemas

The four wineries present  were:

Nottingham Cellars

McGrail Vineyards

Rodrigue Molyneaux

Occasio

Pirates of Emerson 2011

Pirates of Emerson 2011

About: I am going to take a second away from my fashion tips and tell you about a great Halloween attraction happening in the Bay Area: The Pirates of Emerson 2011.  For any of you that are unfamiliar with the Pirates of Emerson (or just not from the Bay Area), it is a Haunted Theme Park with corn mazes and 6 scary haunted houses.  I went for the first time last year to see the pirates and it was super scary.  I will definitely be heading there this year!  They do change the haunted houses every year so even if you went last year you will still have a good time! Each haunted house has a different theme.  If you are bringing children, make sure you have room in your bed that night so they can sleep with you.  This is scary!

To see more information and a preview visit their website at: http://www.piratesofemerson.com/

Prices: $20 for general admission.  This includes admission into all 5 haunted houses plus the mental maze, but not the corn maze.

Add-on: $10 for the corn maze

$30 for speed pass: Same thing as general admission ticket, but to get to cut in front of everybody.  This may be worth it if you are going on a Friday/Sat/Sunday and as it gets closer to Halloween because it WILL be packed.

*They do not accept ATM/Credit Card at the location so bring cash or buy your tickets online.  They do have an ATM, but I don’t know if there is a charge.

** There is a charge for parking at the Alameda County Fairgrounds.  It is $8/car.  So that means car pool!!

Dates/Times: Pirates of Emerson is open 7:05-11pm every Friday/Sat/Sunday until the final 2 weeks before Halloween and then they are open every day except Monday.   Definitely check out the Pirates of Emerson website for more information!

Where: Pirates of Emerson is located at the Alameda County fairgrounds in Pleasanton, CA right off the Bernal exit on 680.

Alameda County Fairgrounds

I hope you all enjoy the Pirates of Emerson!!  If you do go, let me know how it goes!!I promise you won’t be disappointed!
