Christian Dior Couture Spring 2012

The days of Mad Men fashion are not over my friends.  Like my post featured on Pan Am fashion, 50’s fashion is sooo in style.  Just check out Christian Dior’s Spring 2012 fashion show looks.  I love the emphasis on small waists and poofy skirts.  Any figure can wear these clothes and look amazing wearing them.  They show off a woman’s figure and hide her flaws so you can focus on what you really need to.

These looks are so glamorous yet not so over the top you don’t notice the girl wearing the clothes.  I love the dramatic patterns, figure flattering shapes, and the beautiful flow of the dresses.  Christian Dior is so timeless yet modern.

SAG Awards 2012 Best Dressed List

The SAG Awards might still be going on (at least on the West Coast), but here is my list of favorites from the Red Carpet.  I love the colors and textures of all the dresses.    I will say everything seemed a little on the safe side.  Nobody ventured too far out in the red carpet fashion arena.

We saw a lot of pastels, a lot of sheath gowns, some ruching, some beading, and lots and lots of blingy jewelry.

Mirror, Mirror Fashion

I love movies with beautiful cinematography and costumes.  That’s partially why I cannot wait to see Mirror, Mirror, a unique take on Snow White with a fabulous cast and both qualities mentioned above.  Here are just a few shots of the fantastical costumes you will see in the movie.  Scroll down to the bottom for the trailer.

How to Wear Leather

Leather never ceases to be popular.  It’s like denim in that it can be used for almost everything.  The first outfit showcases a pair of leather leggings with an over sized blouse and boyfriend blazer with over the knee boots.  The second a leather jacket, bright pants, and motorcyle boots.  The third is a sparkly top with leather shorts.  Finally, a brown blouse paired with a leather pencil skirt.  All very different ways to wear leather.  Where to begin?

Stripes: Two ways

Everyone should own a long sleeve horizontally striped shirt and some black skinny jeans. Classic black pants go with everything AND striped shirts ALWAYS come back in style. The two outfits below showcase the different ways these can be worn to highlight two different styles.
The left outfit highlights a little color which is super popular right now. It’s trendy and chic. The outfit to the right shows a more classic style; nautical and classic. Whichever way you decide to wear the stripes and black jeans is perfect.  How would you style it?

The Girl on Fire

The hype of the Hunger Games is all around us.  I loved the book and am sort of excited about the movie.  I am mainly seeing it just to see it because I know it won’t live up to my expectations from the book.  What I most most looking forward to though is seeing Katniss Everdeen’s fire dress.  Here is a description:

“I am dressed in what will either be the most sensational or the deadliest costume in the opening ceremonies. I’m in a simple black unitard that covers me from ankle to neck. Shiny leather boots lace up to my knees. But it’s the fluttering cape made of streams of orange, yellow, and red and the matching headpiece that define this costume. Cinna plans to light them on fire just before our chariot rolls into the streets.” — Katniss in The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Here are a few designer’s take on the dress.  I only included my favorite.  🙂  See the link below for the full list of 11 dresses.  Let’s just say these dresses are FIERCE.

Back from Vegas!

Back from Vegas!  Had a great time celebrating my birthday with two of my friends!  Here are a couple pics of what I wore. The two clubs we went to were Marquee and Tao.  Both were fantastic but had great music and a good vibe.  I would love to see some other Vegas clubs.  I look forward to going back again when it’s hot outside!

Hunger Games Nail Polish

If you haven’t read the Hunger Games Trilogy I suggest you do now before the movie comes out. I can’t remember the last time a movie was hyped up this much. I read it over the summer and it really is as good as everyone says it is. While I do not think the movie could ever be as good as the book, I am looking forward to seeing the dress on fire and other fashion pieces from the book. Look for my post on it shortly! I am also looking forward to the new nail polish line featured below from China Glaze.

Hunger Games is a dystopian novel depicting a government that takes 2 kids (one boy and one girl) from each of the 12 districts and has them fight until only one person survives in order to show the government’s strength and keep its citizens in line. It’s dramatic, action filled, and has a love triangle.

The China Glaze Hunger Games Collection below, named the Colours of the Capitol, are named after each of the districts of Panem.   They will be released March 1, 2012 at Ulta and Sally Beauty Supply.

Here’s what the colors look like a little bigger.  I am most looking forward to Smoke and Ashes, Riveting, and Luxe and Lash.  To see them a little bigger, check out All Laquered Up.

2012 Trend: Colored Blazers

Colored Blazers

One of 2012’s funnest trends is colored blazers.  Everyone should have a classic blazer and we’ve been seeing tuxedo and white blazers, but you might also want to add a brightly colored blazer.  Is color blocking too bold for you?  Instead of color blocking your whole outfit, stand out with just one brightly colored piece.

Here are a few outfit ideas.  See how they make a somewhat simple outfit stand out.  Plus you can use a standard outfit and mix it up multiple times for new looks.  I’m always trying to get more use out of my dresses or jeans and tshirts.

2012 Fashion Trend-Nautical Inspired

2012 Trend Alert: Nautical Inspired

I’m seeing stripes everywhere!  From jackets to shoes, shirts to skirts, and everything else in between.  This is a trend that always comes back every couple years so don’t feel bad if you pay more for a cute blazer. I love pairing navy blue trousers with a striped top (of almost any color), and adding a blazer.  The perfect summer outfit.

Other nautical details include bright red (I love the bright red shorts in this picture), striped bikinis, browns and neutrals for shoes, purses, and belts, and star details.  Chambray would also be the perfect fabric to throw in over a bikini or wear tucked into your shorts.
